IT HAPPENED

Regular readers of this blog, that title might indicate certain things to you, if I haven't been away for so long that you've forgotten everything by now.

IT HAPPENED. That thing I've been hoping for. It actually happened.

But not so fast: I've got some catching up to do. As you know, it's been a while. My husband has been abroad lo these many months (and still is, believe it or not, and still has one more jaunt to go), and writing has had to fall by the wayside as I've taken on the duties on single parenthood, to which I am UNIQUELY ILL-SUITED.

But today I've hired a sitter and made an escape and am sitting in a cafe with my computer and getting some writing done and will also get some dinner done and a movie done (because JANUARY and HOBBIT and THAT'S HOW FAR BEHIND I AM PEOPLE) and as much as I wish I had the discipline to just make this a marathon blog post day, I...

...am lying. I don't wish I had that discipline. I want to see The Hobbit, dammit. Ha ha. :)

So I just came to drop this here: It happened! And let you wonder what exactly that means. And I'll be back to catch you up on the last few months within 1-2 posts.

I will say this:

I used to live in an apartment building in San Francisco that I was pretty sure was haunted. Lots of things happened there over the years that will take too long to describe, but suffice it to say, I had a lot of evidence and I'd formed a friendly relationship with the "ghost." Enough that I could tell it to leave me alone when it started to freak me out, and it would.

Anyway, my last night in my apartment, surrounded by piles of moving boxes, I sat in the dark and watched orbs fly around my bedroom for 15 minutes.

I kid you not.

It was SO crazy... SO surreal... that I knew I'd convince myself later that it never happened. The memory of it would fade and disappear into the realm of "things I made up or imagined but didn't actually occur because that would be insane."

I didn't even really believe it as I was watching it happen all around me.

And all of that is true: I barely remember the reality of it now. Because that would be insane.

What I DO remember, though, is what I told myself to do at the time:

REMEMBER THAT YOU SAW THIS, I told myself. YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE THIS LATER. YOU WILL TRY TO TELL YOURSELF THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN. YOU WILL TRY TO CONVINCE YOURSELF THIS WASN'T TRUE. SO REMEMBER THIS: YOU ARE SITTING HERE, RIGHT NOW, WATCHING ORBS FLY AROUND YOUR BEDROOM. THEY ARE ALL DIFFERENT SIZES, ORANGE AND YELLOW AND BLUE AND GREEN AND WHITE. THIS IS HAPPENING. THIS IS REAL. DO NOT LET YOURSELF FORGET.

THIS. REALLY. HAPPENED.

And because I did that, I can picture what those orbs looked like. If I hadn't done that, I doubt I'd still recall. I'd have left that crazy experience in the past, itself to become a ghost, of sorts.

I told you that story to tell you this one: I need to write a blog post about what happened to me this week, because it was almost that surreal.

I've been talking about it for four years. I've known it was possible. I've seen it happen to others. And I don't know if I didn't think it would happen to me, or I just badly underestimated how surreal it would feel when it did.

Either way, I need to write it down to process it, because I can't quite believe it.

I can't wait to describe it to you.

Watch this space!
